In Exeter there is a big redevelopment underway in the city centre and as part of that there are 16 apartments which are soon to be released for sale off plan.
I was in the city for work and heard that some people were so eager to buy one of these new apartments they were actually camping outside the marketing suite ahead of the launch. When I took this picture I thought the launch was the next day:
The campers were playing scrabble together when I passed. I suppose they've got plenty of time to get to know each other - perhaps Channel 5 should get down to Exeter and film it as a cheaper version of Big Brother. I can just hear the geordie voice over: "Day five in the queue and Bob is about to get triple word score for 'knob' in his game against Steve".
Later I heard that some buyers are paying students £500 to queue for them. Exam time is looming so why not earn cash while you revise?
It's not the first time this has happened in this country. Personally I cannot imagine the desire to buy a flat being so strong that I felt the need to spend a week in a tent being stared at by passing shoppers and tourists.
Mind you I don't do tents under any circumstances.
