Had my annual visit to the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition this evening. One of the perks of my job is that I get to go to a private view and sip champagne as I wander around. And I can take a friend.
It's always an interesting exhibition with a wide variety work on display. I never see as much as I should as invariably I end up talking to people I know.
There was a Tracey Emin in their somewhere but I didn't spot it.
I like to try and match my taste with my budget and see if there is anything I would hang on my wall and can afford. Quite a task but there was one little black and white image in ink of a tree for £143 I was quite taken with. The picture I really liked was £15,000 which best represents my champagne taste on a fizzy wine budget lifestyle.
Haven't got pictures to post as it is one of the rare occasions when I feel it isn't really the done thing to whip my camera phone out.
One piece that does stick in my mind (I can't remember what it was called or who it was by so I can't even try and search for an image on the web, if one exists) was a seemingly random pile of twisted metal on the floor. Once it was lit from a certain angle it threw up a shadow on the wall in the shape of two rats shagging. Technically very clever but conceptually probably a bit crude, but I liked it.
