I've been toying with the idea of getting myself a better camera for when I go to New York and on holiday generally. I love my little Pentax Optio but want something that is a little more versatile on special trips, mainly something that has a wider angle and more zoom.
I don't want to go down the road of an SLR. I gave up on carrying all those lenses around many years ago.
Now my technical knowledge isn't great. I'd rather be shown the functions and have the capabilities explained in a language the village idiot could understand.
Jessops is always my first stop as it was the place my Dad, a keen photographer, always went to and they have a store underneath my office and a larger one 10 mins walk away. Their website has a handy function which matches cameras to your particular requirements. So I kept adding requirements and the Nikon Coolpix P90 kept coming out on top.
Next step was online reviews (well two, I get bored easily). They were all very blah, aperture, blah, opitcal, blah, blah, blah but seemed to be giving it quite big thumbs up.
Then I came across this YouTube demo video. And it's just perfect for me. OK so they don't really say it's not so great at this, that and the other like some of the written reviews but it gives a great flavour of what the camera can do. (And I love the fact that it is American with English subtitles!)
It made me want to buy it, so if it is tied to some sort of marketing deal then it worked.
Anyone know of any good reason why I shouldn't buy a camera that has an expanding lense, a swivelly screen thing and smile detector?
