QotD: Friends IRL

Have you ever met an online friend in real life? How did it go?

I follow, on Twitter, quite a few people who are regular London theatre-goers or work in the theatre. Last November, when I tweeted that I was going to see a particular play, on a particular night one of those followee's, @polyg, sent me a DM to say she was going too and if I didn't think it was weird did I want to meet up?

Of course I said 'yes', we swapped mobile numbers and we met in the theatre bar beforehand and then had a drink afterwards so we could discuss the play. Poly is a lovely person who is even more obsessed with the theatre than I am (she went to see more than 50 plays last year!).

It was great fun to meet someone who shares the same interest but whom I've only ever conversed with online. We parted having decided that if either of us ever had a spare ticket to see something we'd bear the other in mind. And since then we have been to the theatre again and I'm sure it won't be the last.
